The Melrose Dog Society
The Melrose Dog Society (MDS) is comprised of a group of citizens with the goals of seeing a dog park realized, promoting responsible dog ownership, and improving conditions within our city for citizens and the estimated 5,000 dogs that reside here.
There is clearly a demand for areas where dogs can run free. We are investigating a few potential dog park locations, including the corner of Tremont Street and the Lynn Fells Parkway, The Knoll (across from the High School) and Mt. Hood.
In addition, we are working to establish a Green Dog Program that would allow dogs to be off-leash in designated public areas during specific established times. A trial program may be proposed at The Common, Hesseltine Park (Horace Mann School), Conant Park (off Conant Rd. and Baxter St.) and the Franklin School Park.
